My Keto Diet Weightloss Journey
Hi, my name is Helena and I have always struggled with my weight.
I come from a family of overweight / obese people. My mom was overweight and so was my grandmother. Since I was a little girl I knew I was going to fight with fat. For. ever.
(Later in my life my dad died of a heart attack. He was overweight….)
As a teenager I was fine, as a young adult (I barely ate) so I was fine.
When I met my partner I was 25 years old and that is when the game started; First I would gain the weight – then I would go on a restricted/starvation diet (500 to 800 calories).
After having a baby I found that when I went on these diets I felt angry, agitated and hormonal. I was unstable and that scared me, so I would start eating again so that I was not horrible to be around. I gave in because of mood swings and because of food.
I was a food addict. No amount of sugar and carbs was ever enough. I felt so much pain and I wanted to comfort and protect myself with food. I felt out of control and hated what I had become, not because fat people are ugly, but because I was a slave to the food and had no self respect or self control.
For 4 years I struggled, I tried every Monday to be a good girl, by Tuesday I was having chocolate brownies in my car on the way to work.
One Sunday in 2017 I was at work and I read an article about a woman who had adrenal fatigue. One of the symptoms is that the patient struggle to lose weight. I thought “shit, that might be it!”
I watched a video on YouTube and the dude mentioned the ketogenic diet was a sure fire way to cure adrenal fatigue as well as many other alignments.
I watched hours and hours of videos. I went on to Pinterest and found the 3 things everyone needs to start a new diet
- a food lists (what is allowed and what is not – and why) – here is mine
- a grocery lists (what you need to buy to set you up for success) – here is mine
- an eating plans (an example guide to “what to eat” for a few weeks to take all the guess work out of it) – here is mine
I was ready. (To be honest I had tried and failed so many times that I did not expect too much.)
Keto Flu hit me hard and I actually thought I had the actual flu and went to the doctor for antibiotics (lol). I stayed in bed for 2 days watching everything I could find on Keto.
I read so many articles and posts to better understand
- different ways of the Keto diet.
- Keto sticks
I joined Facebook groups and I read a million Reddit before and afters.
I ordered some bone broth and my partner bought me gherkin juice. And soon I was feeling better and super motivated…
…..It was now or never
Quitting sugar cold turkey was vital and I had decided not to replace sugar with any artificial sweeteners. I don’t bake and I do not enjoy cooking, so I was not going to make any fathead or fat bomb anythings. (personal preference)
I cooked the meat. Then I added the leaves. That was my recipe.
It worked, I lost close to 10 kgs (21 lbs.) in the first month.
Weight loss plateau aka stalling
The second month I lost five pounds. Rather disappointing after the initial month’s big drop, but I accepted it because I was feeling very good; good mood, and stable energy and amazing sleep , etc.
Stalling is a big topic on all Keto groups and forums. The reason for this is that when you stall you start doubting yourself; “is my calorie intake to high, should I eat more fat, should I eat more lean protein?
You start looking around at what everybody else is doing and you get obsessed about who is doing what. Obsessively counting macros replaces your previous obsession with food.
It was driving me crazy. Egg fasts? Fats fasts? One meal a day…. Some say you must exercise, other say not to…. Frustration builds and the scale is stuck.
It is then that I realized that weightloss is a mind game. Not the “muscles are built in the kitchen” bullshit, weightloss is in the mind. The voices, the chatter and the self sabotaging thoughts…..
Beat your internal programming and you will reach your goal weight.

It took awhile for me to find a solution to my problem. “How do you get your mind in the diet game”. Eventually I found a system that works. It is easy to do (do it form home), affordable and worked for me. It made losing weight effortless.
